It is not every day that you get to photograph people you’ve known for fifteen years. I became friends with Cameron and Mikayla as individuals back in third grade at the Calgary Waldorf School. I developed close friendships with each of them separately, and when they started dating in ninth grade I spent a lot of time third-wheeling their relationship!

After graduating high school they travelled together to Thailand to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary, and then returned to do their degrees together at the University of Calgary, where Mikayla is studying psychology, and Cameron is a pure math whiz.

Now 22, they’ve been together for eight years, but the magic between them only seems to grow stronger with each passing year. They were so in love during this session, giggling and stealing kisses, it would be easy to think that they were still in the honeymoon phase of dating, not eight years in!

The real honeymoon is now going to be very much a reality though, as Cameron popped the question to Mikayla last month! Ahh!! I could not stop flipping out when I heard-- their’s is truly a fairytale romance and an incredibly beautiful love to witness.

Besides being blessed with the opportunity to photograph a couple that means so much to me, this session was also special because I got to look back on the couple photos I took for Mik and Cam seven years ago, back when I was just starting out. I got paid in Halloween candy, and I edited every photo with Picnik (do you remember that website?) I’ve added a couple from that session because it is just SO fun to see how my style has changed over the years, but what hasn’t changed is the love that these two have for each other. My heart is melting just writing this post!

First, the 2012 picnik goodies!

I was a better third wheel than I was photographer at this point

and now the cuties all grown up ♥
